American Studies Undergraduate Prizes

2023-2024 American Studies Undergraduate Prizes

The Department of American Studies Undergraduate Prizes showcase student work and recognize academic excellence in American Studies. Papers will be judged on readability, clarity of writing, and exemplary engagement with the interdisciplinary concerns of American Studies. We accept submissions from several categories: lower-division paper, upper-division paper, creative project, and thesis. Award winners will receive a $25 gift card to the UCD bookstore and will be featured on the AMS website. We may also award a grand prize of $100. The awards will be presented at our AMS spring graduation party. The paper or project must have been completed for an AMS course at UC Davis, but the prize is not restricted to American Studies majors (although AMS majors and minors may receive preference if all other factors are equal). Submissions will be evaluated by a committee of American Studies faculty members.

How to submit your entry:

Self-submission: Submit your paper or creative project for consideration for the AMS Undergraduate Prize to ams-advising@ucdavis.edu. Reminder: Papers should be typed and double-spaced.

Nominations: Professors teaching an AMS class may also nominate student papers for the writing prize. Submit your nominations via email to ams-advising@ucdavis.edu.

Essays and Creative Projects should be submitted by Thursday May 30th at 11:59PM.
